⚡Instructive story from Josh Chavez , describes his sad experience and reminds us to always be on the alert if we don't want to lose everything!
🤦♂Never thought this would happen to me, because I practically live in Internet and I can recognize scammers from a mile away, but I forgot to double-check one small detail ...
👉 A relatively reliable person contacted me via direct Instagram an account with clearly bought followers and engagement, but with enough content and tone of voice to engage.
👉As an artist, I very often get random clients this way. Nothing unusual.🤔Soon they asked to fulfill the order for the cover. I invite them to formally share information, budget, concept, etc. via email.📧
👉Everything went perfectly normal and standard.
They provided an .mp3 for the song, a logo to include, and a .PDF including links, a short description, and payment information via WeTransfer.👀
👉I download from WeTransfer, I extract and immediately notice .exe tag at the end of the intended filea .PDF.
‼Without being able to close or delete the .exe and downloaded files, I see that it got attached to chrome. Before I could remember how the wallet is empty, and my favorite NFTs were sold at auction several times cheaper than their cost.💸
‼Obviously, it was an oversight not to check the file twice, especially since the .exe extension was visible even before the link was opened WeTransfer, but I was not only in a hurry, it was commonplace - something that I smugly did with clients many times in a row.🤦♂
📌 In short: always double-check everything. Be carefull. I have been living on the Internet for about ten years now, but I have not yet been scammed, and I did not expect it to happen in such a roundabout way.
An easy lesson to never forget!
